What do you think of my story?
Wednesday, January 21st, 2009Ok so i’m almost done with my story but now need a title and need help on how to end it so please help? *i will fix my grammer and things later after i finish the story ok*
It was June 13th 7:00 A.M when it all started. When I woke up that morning I headed outside to retrieve the newspaper. That’s when I knew we were in big trouble. The outside of the door was frozen with a huge chunk of ice that surrounded the whole door. I kicked hard at the chunk of ice but it didn’t even make a dent. I went around the house looking at every door and window and sure enough it was the same, frozen. I didn’t think that we were necessarily prepared for this or expecting this to happen so I went up stairs into my parent’s room.
“Um, I have a question.” I said trying not to sound nervous.
“What is it Emily?” my mother moaned obviously still sleepy.
“What if we were trapped inside the house and we can’t get out?” I asked.
“Don’t be silly, how would we be trapped inside of our own house?” She said with a little smirk.
“Well were frozen in, there’s a huge chunk of ice that’s blocking the door ways and windows and we can’t get out!” I practically yelled.
No answer but my sister’s “Quiet down in there, some of us are still sleeping!” I headed back down stairs to look if there was anything about this on the news. I pushed the power button and changed the channel to 13. I didn’t expect the screen to be black though. Then I remembered since 13 wasn’t 24 hour news network they must have gone home at night and couldn’t get out the next morning so there’s no news. I looked on all of the news channels but nothing. Well channel 2 was on because its 24 hour news but it didn’t help much; the news anchors were all freaking out and running all over the place. That’s when I decided to call my best friend, Claire. “Claire?” I said.
“Yah? She said in the same voice my mother had.
“Take a look outside.”
“Ok…” she said and then total silence. I could hear her moving in the back ground and then a scream.
“What’s going on? She blabbered.
“I’m not sure, I think there was a massive snow storm last night and I guess it was really cold outside and it froze up the snow and made it hard as ice.”
I could hear more screaming and I knew this wasn’t going to go anywhere so I just hung up. I guess I must have been making a lot of noise downstairs because the next thing I know my sister, Amanda was coming down and she never wakes up before 10:30. “What are you doing up so early?” She mumbled.
“Take a look outside” I said while I was opening the door. You could tell by the expression on her face that she was really shocked.
“What happened?” She responded.
“I’m not sure I think that there was a snow storm last night and it was below 0 degrees outside and the snow froze and made a really hard ice.” I said trying to sound smart.
“In June?” She said with a grin on her face.
“Whatever” I mumbled under my breath.
We went up stairs and into our parent’s rooms again.
“Mom, I don’t want to scare you or anything but its true, we’re trapped in this house and there’s no way out.” My sister said calmly.
“Fine, if it makes you two feel better I’ll go check.” She said annoyed
We go down stairs and open the door.
“See? What I tell you.” She said looking at us. Then she turns around.
“Oh my” she says speechless. “Dear, come down here.” So my dad comes down and said something none of us predicted, “I knew this was going to happen.”
“What do you mean?” I asked a little dazed. “Well 25 years ago on this same day the same thing happened. My father told me that it was called the ice breaker and it happens every 20-25 years on June 13th. It lasts for about 1-2 weeks I think but when it happened 25 years ago it lasted 3-4; we almost ran out of food and were bored out of our minds. I hope this one doesn’t last that long.” He said having a mini flashback of what happened 25 years ago.
“Do we have enough food to last?” my sister asked a little scared. “Maybe, but me maybe have to cut back a bit. Only 2 meals a day, one at 9:30 A.M and the other at 7:30 P.M. “But I’ll starve!” my sister moaned. “Well, deal with it Amanda.” My dad said, everyone was silent. We headed over to the kitchen. We looked at what food we had and how to use it. There was a bunch of soup cans, crackers, cereal, and some things I have no idea how to define. This was going to be a hard couple of weeks.
For the first couple of days I spent my days playing on my iPod touch downloading random apps and finding out that half of them I didn’t even like. I probably wasted about $50.00 those in those couple of days. Then on the fourth day, the power went out. It was complete darkness and we didn’t know where we were going. I ran into a couple of doors and corners but I’m ok. When we finally found the candles we didn’t have a lighter so we looked for one. Once everything was back to normal or at least close to we decided to play a game of Monopoly and it was actually pretty
